Life Safety- Whats more important than getting out? __~NOTHING
SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM
When dealing with the need to have a combination lock (mechanical or XO9) on a means of egress door and still comply with the new Single Motion Egress requirements you have at this point in time only two locks on the market that comply with the NFPA 101 codes.
• You can use the Lockmasters, one piece LKM 7000 Single Motion deadbolt with XO9 electronic combination lock
•You can use the KABA MAS linked exit bar with CDXO9 electronic combination lock.
When dealing with the need to have a standard single or double cylinder deadbolt and a leverset on the same door, consider using an “interconnected lockset” which has both a deadbolt (either single or double) and a leverset but with one additional feature: to exit from the inside, simply turn the lever and both locks unlock.
Technical Application for Door Swing
The KABA MAS linked bar with CDXO9 combo lock will only work on out swinging doors. This is particularly important because there are NFPA 101 exceptions that allow certain “in-swinging doors” to be included in the means of egress.
In addition, the KABA MAS-linked bar does not meet FED STD FF -L-2740A and FF-L-2890 requirements for open storage of classified information.
NOTE: By “open storage” FF-L-2740A and FF-L-2890 means any “unprotected” classified information in open view. This could include classified information on an office desk, information on a white board in a meeting room, or an office, or any similar situation where the “wrong people” might view classified data.
The LKM 7000 lock will work on both out-swinging and in-swinging doors. Additionally the LKM 7000 uses the XO9 deadbolt and strike for locking and latching (This does meet the DOD/FED STD FF-L-2740A and FF-L-2890 for open storage of classified information).
Both Locking systems come in mechanical mode and electronic mode (for linking to card access systems of all kinds).
